With Arsenal having gone four Premier League games without a win, without scoring in three, Jonathan Kaney gives his assessment on what it means to the title race.

Arsenal’s latest result was a tough pill to swallow for Gooners as we drew 0-0 at home, failed to score for the third Premier League game in a row and watched Leicester and Manchester City extend their lead at the top, with Spurs also leapfrogging us into third.

Much like Jack Butland at Stoke a couple of weeks ago, we were largely undone by some freak outstanding goalkeeping by Fraser Forster and any other day it could have been a routine 2 or 3 goal victory for us.

It’s frustrating that we sit five points behind Leicester, three behind Manchester City and now trail Spurs in the top four race, but worrying again that the title race is finished is a knee-jerk and short-sighted reaction.

We’ve still claimed a point to keep the board ticking over and it may actually be the best thing to happen kick us into gear and take the pressure of us leading the pack. While the sceptics and critics are attacking us for bottling the league again, it puts City and Leicester back in the spotlight.

If we claim victories over Leicester and Spurs, we are right back in the mix and with City to play at home, we are still well on course for the title.

With us just entering February and the season ending in May, there are still far too many games and surprises in store for us from now until then to think this run of uninspiring form will continue.

We’ve been playing without our two best central midfielders for months, and it’s no coincidence that the dip has come during a spell that has seen us without Sanchez too. Although the last few games have been disappointing, there is still a long way to go.

This result has to be the last wobble though or the alarm bells really might start ringing.
