Rumour has it that reported Arsenal target Morgan Schneiderlin will sort out his future in the next couple of days, with the player admitting he is seeking a move to a top club in search of playing Champions League football.

Manchester United as well as a host of other clubs are also reportedly interested in the £25 million man and though Schneiderlin is a quality footballer, perhaps missing out on him wouldn’t be such a bad thing for Arsenal.

He is no huge step in class from Coquelin and certainly not from the other defensive midfield targets Arsenal are reportedly after. For that same price, Arsenal could well capture long time target William Carvalho from Sporting, who is every bit as talented as Schneiderlin. He is similar in attributes and has Champions League appearances under his belt.

He too would be making an upward move in his career with much to prove, and would bring the same enthusiasm and effort.

Then there is the big fish, Arturo Vidal, who Arsenal are reportedly after as well. Arsenal could put that £25 million towards Vidal’s capture, and the Chilean star is undeniably a different class to Schneiderlin. It would most likely take another 15 to 20 million pounds to pull off the coup, but would represent a better investment for me.

Not that signing Schneiderlin would be a disappointment by any means, and if he is available Arsenal should certainly try their hand. But for my gooners who think Schneiderlin could be our night in shining armour, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

One response to “What missing out on Schneiderlin could mean for Arsenal”

  1. Sean Williams says:

Wenger is a worry. The squad as it is cannot win the league. We desperately need another quality Dm. To expect Coquelin to play up to 65 games is stupid and delusional. Missing Schneiderlin would be OK if we managed to get either William Carvalho Carvalho, Arturo Vidal, or Giannelli Imbula. There is no way just buying a cheap cover cover will win us the Premier League or the Champions League. I can only hope Wenger does not make the same mistake he has made for over ten years and leave us two top players short of a Premiership challenge. Maybe Mourinho is right, maybe Wenger is an expert in failure regarding the Premier League.
