A welcome surprise addition to the subs bench yesterday was Theo Walcott after his long injury lay off. After 9 months out with a knee injury, it was good to see Walcott finally back in with the boys and we cannot wait to see him return to the pitch.

Wenger was understandably cautious on the topic of Walcott, saying he lacks match time and needs to get used to “getting  kicked again” but says Walcott will definately be involved next week against Burnley.

What should we expect from Walcott when he returns? I don’t expect him to shoulder all the responsibility going forward, but I am looking forward to seeing what he can add to our blunt attack. He has supreme pace much like Sanchez and Chamberlain but differs in his movement and positioning. His crossing is also something we missed sorely and I hope Walcott will bring the best out of Welbeck when he returns.

He is an excellent finisher as well, and goals are something we are lacking a bit at the moment so Walcott should help with that.

I expect him as well to run in behind the back line, so we should see defenses being stretched even more often. Welbeck already is a player who likes to do that, so with Walcott’s introduction Arsenal should really open teams up. Walcott will truly feel like a new signing and hopefully provide a catalysts for a return to form for the side.

At the very least, he also adds yet another man to the squad even if just for numbers sake. This is always welcomed given the current injury struggles. In Walcott, Arsenal will have yet another attacking weapon, and another reason to be optimistic going forward.
