Who?

Thomas Cruise joined Arsenal in 2007 as a 17-year-old.

Career highlights

The defender was part of Arsenal’s youth side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2008/09 season. However, Cruise’s greatest career moment – and I’m sure he’ll agree – was representing Arsenal’s senior team, for the first and last time, in the Champions League against Olympiacos. Arsene Wenger’s side had already achieved qualification from the group, so Le Professeur fielded several youth players.

Speaking ahead of the clash against the Greek side, Wenger said: “For me there is only one Tom Cruise and it is the one who plays for Arsenal Football Club,”

“I don’t care about headlines. Headlines or not Tom Cruise will play at left back.

“If you are in his boots, at the start of the season you would not think for a second that you will play in the Champions League. It is good for him to get an opportunity in these games.

“I would not like him to be under too much pressure. But I believe he is a very good footballer.”

Cruise also reached double figures for caps combined across the U16s, U17s and U19s for England.

Arsenal reject! Arsenal reject!

Cruise left Arsenal at the end of his contract in 2011, however, the former Gooner didn’t sign for a new side until the following year, with Torquay United signing Cruise on a one-year deal.

During the year between leaving Arsenal and joining the Gulls, Cruise had a trial with Serie B side Sampdoria and Major League Soccer side New England Revolution.
