Who?
The central defender moved to Arsenal in 2002 from Ligue 1 outfit Lille for a fee of £2million. The then-28-year-old arrived from France as Lille’s captain with his experience meant to be a huge boost to the back four.
Arsenal highlights
Well, Pascal Cygan can in fact call himself a Premier League winner and an ‘Invincible’ making 18 appearances during the 2003/04 campaign.
No career highlight, let alone Arsenal highlight, will top going to the season unbeaten, however, I always remember – and enjoy – the fact the Frenchman bagged a brace for the Gunners in a 4-1 victory over Fulham.
Arsenal reject! Arsenal reject!
Unlike most Arsenal players who fall into obscurity, Cygan didn’t do the whole ‘played for 23 different clubs by the age of 26’. Upon leaving Arsenal, Cygan moved to Spain with La Liga outfit Villarreal, where he stayed for three years.
After losing his first-team slot with Villarreal, Cygan joined FC Cartagena, who had just earnt promotion to the second tier of Spanish football. Cygan spent two seasons with the club before retiring in 2011 at the age of 37.
Ze man is a livin’ legend. Hurah to the mighty Pascal Cygan. Mikel Silvestre could not lick the man’s boots
