Arsenal have reportedly agree a pre-contract agreement with Porto ace Jackson Martinez. Reports in Portugal have claimed a “principle agreement” has been reached for the player to sign.

The 28 year old has scored 32 goals for Porto this season but has been angling for a move away for quite some time now. He said earlier in the year that he would search for a new club and a change of scenery, having played three seasons with the Portuguese giants.

Amidst reported interest from Manchester City as well as several other high profile clubs, the Jornal di Noticias newspaper in Portugal suggests the Colombian is heading to Arsenal. The paper says nothing has been sorted out with Porto as of yet, but an agreement is reportedly close between the clubs.

This comes after a section of the club’s fans appeared to say farewell to the player, holding up a sign reading “thank you Jackson” during the club’s final match of the season yesterday against Penafiel.

Martinez’s release clause is set at £24.8million which Arsenal are expected to meet. Like the Vidal rumour, gooners will take this with a grain of salt, but assuming there is some truth to it, where will he fit in? Would he provide back up to Giroud or replace the Frenchman straight into the XI?

Martinez’s incredible record of 67 goals in 88 games lends me to believe that he would usurp Giroud from the lineup right away. The Colombian is a constant threat and consistent goal scorer, and would instantly make Arsenal title challengers again.

He is similar to Giroud with his strength and intelligent hold up play, but offers more pace and mobility. He adds a different dimension to Giroud, as he will look to run in behind the back line as well hold up the play. This essentially makes him far more dangerous.

In truth, the two can play together in a front two if need be, so Martinez would be a good addition I reckon. Wenger previously praised the player for his physical attributes and intelligence, saying “he has everything to play in the Premier League.”

What do you think gooners? Where will Jackson Martinez fit into the side?

Very fyn analysis!bt wuld AW actually go for dis target? He usually works against general trends of fan thinking;if Martinez is such an awsome goal machine , he surely is the one we nid at arsenal, nd shuld move straight into d X1 as a CF.for me we still nid one more CF to make 3 including OG;EPL is such an intense competion apart from d other Cup competitions during d season; Chelsea had Coasta, Remy nd Drogba bt in d last one month non of dem culd perform at optimum bcos of injuries wich resulted in a draught of goals, so my take is for arsenal to be fully equiped in all depts against next season wit CL already guarranted,FA cup, league cup. Et al on d the slate. We shuld be well armed to compete comfortably, excuses will nt be acceptable from AW, all die hard admirers of AW will much be disappointed in him if he fails to do d nidful dis summer to enable our darling team position itself adequately for the forthcming challenges in all fronts.

67 goals in 88 matches that is not easy to come by judging with the analysis here I believe its not luck that gave him that record rather its hard work and perfection besides the fee is not that bad for a player that has done so well like that so let’s go for him. I believe he is the one for arsenal. If its boss’s will
