Danny Welbeck spoke recently about his form and his first season with the club, saying he still has much room to improve and does not regret his move from United in the slightest. Welbeck has faced some criticism for failing to hit the next on a more consistent basis despite finally getting his shot in his preferred centre forward role.

He finished with a modest return of 8 goals and 8 assists before a groin injury ruled him out for the better part of the second half of the season. With Theo Walcott returning to full fitness and form and rumours surrounding a possible new striker entering the club, where does Welbeck stand in the side?

At the moment, he is the second choice centre forward as well as the first or second choice winger, but that was before Walcott re-entered the fray. With Chamberlain expected back soon as well and everyone available and fit, it will be interesting to see where Welbeck fits back into the equation.

He must improve his goal tally if he is to be considered in centre forward, while the wing positions are fully stocked at the moment. He will face heavy competition all over the pitch and will have his work cut out for him if he is to earn more first team minutes.

He did well out on the wings, using his pace and strength to get in behind and create opportunities. Still, there is a feeling that wing is not his most natural position and Welbeck finds himself in the same predicament he found himself in at United.

Stuck between forward and winger, and competition for places in both areas is only going to get tougher. Next season will be a telling one for Welbeck.
