One of the major frustrations around being an Arsenal fans is the total blind alley we always feel we are led down in gossip columns.

Arsene Wenger has always been one to keep things close to his chest, and not much in the way of leaks happen in the press regarding our beloved Gunners. Therefore, any rumours are usually based on who journalists think Arsenal should be signing rather than who Le Professeur is genuinely considering.

A day after the summer transfer window closed we were already being linked with every single central defender and defensive midfielder – I hope we are all taking the Sami Khedira rumours with a pinch of salt now?!

Sure it’s exciting reading we are after this World Cup winner or this Serie A sensation but, deep down, we know we are getting excited for no reason, we know the more you hear about a player being linked with a move to the Emirates the less likely it is.

Mesut Ozil was reportedly done almost two weeks before it really gathered momentum in the papers, Nacho Monreal came straight out of left field and Danny Welbeck, our most recent Deadline Day surprise, is still one that carries a sense of ‘oh, that actually happened?!’

Wenger likes to spring a surprise in the transfer window, he likes to give his wry smile in press conferences when quizzed on potential links and that suits me fine.

My advice, ignore the rumours, don’t get excited or upset by the names linked and just check the squad tab on the Arsenal website on the 1st February and leave it at that.
