Arsenal have been linked with PSG ace Marco Verratti after the player said he would be open to a move to the Premier League. Verratti is one of Europe’s hottest young players and has been the best centre midfielder in Ligue 1 for the past few seasons.

He is not however, the man Arsenal need to take the club to the next level. By now gooners are bored with links to players who play a position that’s not striker or defencive midfield. Those are the positions we need and those are the positions Wenger should be targeting.

Adding Verratti would add undue congestion to an attacking midfield corps already boasting the likes of Ozil, Cazorla, Ramsey, and Wilshere among others (and those are just the central attacking players). The kind of money he would cost would make him an expensive luxury, and it would be a huge mistake to sign him ahead of a forward.

Verratti had this to say about speculation regarding his future:

“You never know what can happen in the future. I’m doing well where I am and I’m not thinking about changing clubs.”

“I’ll begin to consider leaving on the day that I no longer feel good at PSG or when the club decides to sell me.”

“England, Spain and a return to Italy are possible options. The project is the most important thing.”

It’s simple case of great player, no room. For me it is nonstarter, because although Verratti could play defencive or deeper lying midfield if needed, it is not his natural position and Wenger would probably tell you Arsenal has many players like him already at the club.

Top class player he is, but Arsenal should thanks but no thanks.

Veratti was speaking about his future, the next three seasons. He would be the perfect replacement for santi when he leaves (exact same player but italians are better at defending)
