Last summer, Arsenal were on the hunt for someone with experience and leadership between the posts. Neither Wojciech Szczesny nor David Ospina had really cemented a place, and Arsène Wenger needed backup.

The former Chelsea number 1 was brought in for £10M and the Czech Republic keeper had an instant impact. Petr Cech went on to record 16 clean sheets in 34 matches – the highest number in the Premier League this season, pipping David De Gea, Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel.

After a season spent for the most part on the Blues’ bench, it would not have been unreasonable to expect him to take some time to find consistency again. It can take time to get back into the rhythm, but it didn’t take long at all for Cech to prove without a doubt that he is one of the best goalkeepers in Premier League history.

The goalkeeper has brought personality and assurance to the back and he made plenty of vital saves to help Arsenal to second spot in the league table, with the best percentage of shots saved in the Premier League at 76.6%.

The contribution he has brought to the team for the price Arsenal paid is astounding – for that reason he has to be considered signing of the season.
