Arsenal’s young fullback Hector Bellerin has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past 12 months, going from youth and reserve team player to the first team’s first choice right back. The youngster surpassed expensive summer signing Calum Chambers in the race to take over for the fallen Mathieu Debuchy last season, putting in some sensational displays and making the position his own.

The pacey defender contributed a few assists and goals down the flank aside from his sound defencive work, with the league and the rest of Europe standing up an taking notice.

Such stellar performances saw him retain his spot this season despite Debuchy returning, and he has even been rewarded with his first full call up to the Spanish national side.

All this has come before his 21st birthday, and Bellerin must be on cloud nine at the moment. He has earned his increased stock, having proven to be the best right back at the club at the moment. In fact he has proven one of the best right backs in the Premier League.

Last season certainly he performed as well as any fullback, and you would have to say he is on course to becoming on of the league’s premier defenders.

His pace in particular makes him such a prospect. No too many footballers can match Hector stride for stride, as word from the Arsenal camp says he has defeated sprint king Theo Walcott in the 40 yard dash. You wouldn’t doubt it, as his recovery pace is evident during matches.

The Premier League possesses some of the paciest customers, and Hector was brilliant in keeping them at bay most of the time. Of course in modern football fullbacks are often expected to double as wing backs as well, and Hector has impressed with the quality of his crosses and the timing of his runs.

He really does cause trouble overlapping down that flank, and he has the makings of a fabulous fullback. He still must learn a bit more about positioning defencively (although his pace means he can always recover and is never really punished because of it), and once he nails that down he will be one of Europe’s best.

He was even linked with interest from his former club Barcelona following his performances, and Hector is destined for stardom.

Arsenal have made a statement of their aspirations for success by doing absolutely nothing in the transfer market.
The only team in the top five leagues in Europe not to sign ONE outfield player.
The promoted teams each far outspent Arsenal this summer.
And this is all you can write about?
Is this your way of deflecting the issue that we have a manager who is absolutely clueless?
    Dear f**king god..

I agree with you .IMO we do not have a problem with full backs. Our shortcomings are in the final third. Putting the ball behind the net is a major probrem. We need a lethal striker who scores 90% of the chances created. The window has closed unfortunately and therefore we hold our horses and see where Wengers faith with the current crop of strikers takes us.
