With Arsenal firmly in the title race, in no small part down to our phenomenal goalkeeper, @DanGaleaStJohn believes signing Cech has been Arsenal’s best piece of business for ten years.

I’ll start off with this question: where would we be without this man in goal?

No discredit to Ospina, who was unfortunate not to be the team’s first choice keeper after a very good second half of the season last year, but Cech is really really good.

Week in week out you hear some Arsenal player say that the Czech is such a calming influence, that he oozes confidence, and that they feel much safer with him in goal. That game against West Ham seems like a decade ago.

Cech has the joint most clean sheets in the league this season, and he has produced a horde of top-drawer saves already.

During the last ten years, Arsenal have made a series of high profile signings, including Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and just about every single player in the squad (with the exception of a few home grown talents). But none has brought the stability to the squad that Cech has brought.

Cech brought a title winning attitude with him, Cech has brought calmness with him, and Cech has brought desire and passion with him.

After the Chelsea defeat, he was the only player to tweet about the loss.

Now, I am not saying that tweeting makes him a better player, but he seems to say the right things at the right times. He isn’t ashamed of the loss, on the contrary, he has the passion and the determination to use it as a springboard to make do for the disappointing result.

There was also the notable moment at the end of the game, when a dejected Laurent Koscielny was hauled off the ground by Cech. It brought back haunting memories of William Gallas against Birmingham City but this time we had a literal pick-me-up.

When he was bought in summer, many hailed him as the best keeper since Seaman, and, so far I fail to see any reason to disagree. This argument would be further substantiated if Arsenal go on to win the league but there is no denying his sheer class and professionalism.

Cech has a good 4/5 years left in him. Just imagine what that could mean for Arsenal’s title prospects. With Coquelin coming back from injury to be able to provide that shield in front of the back four that we have been in such dire need for lately, then things can only be positive from then on.
