Gunners fans keeping a keen eye on the Under-20 World Cup will have seen our highly rated young talent Gedion Zelalem play a starring role with some outstanding football as the USA beat Myanmar 2-1, New Zealand 4-0 and Colombia 1-0.

Highlight clips have flooded the internet with his flashy, intricate skills (particularly a superb assist, audacious rabona and silky nutmeg), excellent one touch passing, creativity and vision way beyond his 18 years.

Gunners fans definitely have a reason to get excited about a prospect who looks head and shoulders above the rest of his age group, and whose raw flair and special quality is rare to see these days.

When he switched allegiance from Germany to the USA there was a lot of hype about him and the usual scepticism that came with it. However, with his fantastic performances on the world stage as of late, the hype now will surely only increase.

Whilst he hasn’t made a first team appearance in the Premier League, he has performed excellently at under 21 level in the 2013 Asian tour and has made substitute appearances in the Champions League. With the creativity and technical ability he is demonstrating, he deserves a chance now to step up and show what he can do on the biggest stage alongside our first team stars.

Arsene’s newly found desire to spend may limit his opportunities somewhat, but one thing is certain at Arsenal: if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.

Either way, at only 18 years old, based on what we have seen so far there is no question he is a special talent and Gunners fans will be seeing a lot more of Gedion Zelalem in the future.
