Tomas Rosicky has agreed a one year contract extension at the club, with Wenger confirming the experienced Czech Republic international still has a part to play in his side.

The 34 year old has found himself on the fringes of the side this year despite one of the most consistent and standout performers in recent years. He has managed just five Premier League starts this season, leading many to believe his time at the club may be coming to an end.

A possible return to former club Sparta Prague has been mooted, but Wenger moved to squash those rumours by flatly answering “yes” when asked is Rosicky would be staying in North London.

The boss then added: “We have taken up the option [of a one-year contract extension].” On the topic of the player being used as a possible makeweight for any transfer deals in the summer, Wenger had this to say:

“Tomas Rosicky is not involved in the transfer market at all, he will be with us next season and we do not use the players for that.”

For me Tomas still has plenty left in the tank. His vision and passing range is second to none still as is his technical ability. He is also the oldest and most experienced player in the squad and that alone is invaluable to the side. He can play anywhere in midfield or along the front three and is still one of the best play makers in the squad.

His fall from grace is a mystery still, and it will be interesting to see if he factors more heavily into the boss’ plans next season.

I am not buying that, one bit. No player quite as good would like to stay one whole year as a bit part player. Rosicky would leave in the summer if something can be quietly worked out for him; he is just matured enough to ‘play along’ with his manager so as to avoid media inquiry.
