Petr Cech’s sensational display against Liverpool has pretty much quieted all the naysayers. Funny game football is, as just three weeks ago his less than stellar debut against West Ham had skeptics up in arms. It is a dangerous game of two extremes really when it comes to expectations, as they have a tendency to soar as quickly as they plummet.

Will Cech lead Arsenal to Premier League glory?

Hypothetically, if Cech could turn out performances like that week in and week out he would never concede a goal and put Arsenal in a perfect position to win the league. But it’s never that simple is it? He is only human of course and he cannot be expected to burden all defencive duties on his own.

Can he lead Arsenal to glory? Yes. Will he lead Arsenal to glory? The answer to that is contingent more upon the ten men in front of him.

Arsenal have to find their consistency and form quickly. A strong defence will bring the best out of Cech, and if Arsenal can regain the solidarity showed in the second half of last season, Cech could add the finishing touches to a watertight back line.

The saying goes however that defence wins titles while offence wins games, so even if Cech and the defence is judged to be doing their bit, the attacking force isn’t holding up their end of the bargain. Two goals in three games is unlike Arsenal, especially considering two of the three games were at home.

Considering one of the goals was actually an own goal as well, and it is safe to say Arsenal have bigger problems than defence at the moment. Wenger would do well to invest in some reinforcements before the window closes, and the players already at Arsenal would do well to step up to step up their performances.

Then and only then could Cech be expected to help lead the side to a title.
