Amongst the usual ongoing injury crises at Arsenal, the club may actually receive some good injury news in the shape of Theo Walcott returning from a lengthy layoff. Walcott was stretchered off during Arsenal’s 2-0 F.A cup win over Tottenham last January and could be set to finally return to the fold soon. Wenger provided a positive update on Walcott’s status, saying the Englishman should be back in full training after the international break in a fortnight’s time. The questions that now surface are where will Walcott fit in this current side? Will he struggle to get back in?

My response is fairly cut and dry; no. Arsenal isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders and I would expect any returning first choice player to get a fair shake. Let alone one of our top and most consistent goalscorers. How quickly we forget that Walcott led the team in scoring two season ago with 14 league goals, and probably would nave improved on that last season if not for his injury.

And that’s not to mention the pace he brings to the side, which isn’t even close to being matched by anyone else. Without him, we look shockingly void of ideas sometimes and I would expect his infusion back into the side to be swift. His runs in behind will bring out a better Ozil as well, and an attacking tandem of Ozil, Walcott, and Sanchez sounds tantalizingly powerful.

Also, with the current injury plague effecting the side Wenger may be left with no choice but to field Walcott unfortunately. Theo should not be burdened with the task of single-handedly resurrecting the side, but he is a key piece and should be trusted to help lift our fortunes. I fully expect Walcott to be in the squad for October 18th’s clash with Hull, and back in the XI sometime shortly after that. Arsenal simply have to get going and fast. The gap at the top is growing every week and we could be in real trouble if we don’t lift ourselves. Walcott’s return I’m hoping will left the side even if slightly and its up to the lads to ride the wave after that.

we need the return of Walcott to the team soonest, for his ability to get behind the opposition defence. the lack of someone with this quality was glaringly missing in yesterday’s match against spurs when there was no one to connect a few through-balls from ozil. there is no doubt the return of Walcott will improve the team in no small way. Walcott is a prolific goal scorer as well.

Worried by the headline but pleased when the article concluded that Walcott definitely gets in.For me it is an absolute no-brainer and Theo becomes very much the last throw of the dice to prevent the season totally dis-integrating after a start that has been so depressing particularly coming directly following Wengers disgraceful lack of meaningful activity in the transfer window. The whole world can see that we need a powerful defensive mid-fielder and more cover in defence but he seems to ignore this and be largely unchallenged about this arrogant inability to see what is clearly lacking.God help us at Chelsea.

Agreed. I was almost certain a holding midfielder would come in as well as a CB with or without Vermalean leaving. Absolute mystery as to what was going through Wenger’s mind
