2 players Wenger must offload in January

Whenever Arsenal and the transfer window are mentioned in the same sentence in recent years, everybody instantly thinks, “Who will Arsenal bring in to improve their squad?”, with no mention of who should depart from The Emirates.

The Gunners yet again started in a strong position this season, staying in the early title race. However, as fans are well aware of by now, they seem to have an annual drop in form around November to December and to no surprise, it has happened again.

With Chelsea a huge eight points ahead of Arsene Wenger’s side, it looks as if the title race is all but over for Gooners, as early as January.

If Wenger does bring in January additions to boost his chances of lifting silverware this season, it’s natural that some players will have to leave North London so that these players can join the side.

The question is, what players should make way for any new additions? Here’s the TWO players we believe should leave The Emirates this month…

Mathieu Debuchy

There’s no denying that Debuchy’s time at Arsenal has been a horrid one. Suffering a big injury and being replaced by Hector Bellerin, arguably the best right-back in the Premier League this season.

It doesn’t look like Mathieu will be back in the side anytime soon, with Bellerin being a fan favourite and consistently playing well at such a young age.

The French full-back’s wage is the key reason he should be offloaded in January, the money he is earning on a weekly-basis could be used on a more effective addition.

Per Mertesacker

This is a tough one. The giant German defender is a good player, but with his latest injury problems and the addition of Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia in the summer, it seems Per’s time at The Emirates is up.

On top of this, Arsenal also have Brazilian Gabriel who plays the same position. There is a wealth of competition for the role that Mertesacker plays.

You would think Calum Chambers would be in Wenger’s plans in the upcoming seasons, after spending around £18 million for the young English defender.

Per Mertesacker has been a good player for Arsenal, but removing him from the wage bill could be very beneficial for Arsene to recruit a new player.
