The deal to take Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson across the river to Crystal Palace is still going on, according to Palace manager Sam Allardyce.

The England international, who spent last season on loan with West Ham, failed to make an impact on the Arsenal first team upon his return.

In the wake of Hector Bellerin’s injury earlier this term, Jenkinson was handed the chance to get his hands on the first choice right-back slot.

However, the former Charlton man was lambasted by fans and dropped by his manager after a poor showing against Southampton in the EFL Cup.

Having dropped the defender, Arsene Wenger claimed he was concerned that 24-year-old could not handle the pressure put upon him by fans at games or on social media.

Allardyce, who took the hot seat at Crystal Palace having been sacked as England manager last year, worked with Jenkinson at West Ham and is keen to bolster his defence this month.
