3 crucial Arsenal players against Bayern Munich

Arsenal face a tough test in Germany tomorrow evening against the might of Bayern Munich, where a victory would complete a sensational turnaround in their European form.

After shock defeats in the opening two matches, Arsenal gave themselves a fighting chance of making the knock-out stages after ending Bayern’s 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions at the Emirates Stadium two weeks ago.

Whilst that result was fantastic, tomorrow’s test will prove to be much sterner- especially as Arsenal are without Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hector Bellerin through injury.

Jonathan Kaney believes that if Arsenal are to get a result then these three players will be the most crucial during the match, holding the key to the Gunners chances within their hands.

Alexis Sanchez

Looked jaded in the first fixture at the Emirates after playing a crazy amount of games, but is back to peak fitness and raring to go after another good performance against Swansea at the weekend.

With us expected to have our backs against the wall for most of the game, we will need his pace, tireless work rate and infectious aggression to keep up intensity and drive at the Germans to stop them dominating the ball. We all know how good a player he is – and so do Bayern.

With the threat he poses they will likely try and mark him out the game, which may also play into our hands and create space for our other attacking players to exploit. His performance – as always – will be crucial for us.

Mathieu Debuchy

A huge game for the Frenchman who has had little football since Hector Bellerin stepped up to take his place at right back. The Spaniard’s injury is a huge blow, and we will desperately miss the attacking support and searing pace he offers.

Debuchy has put in some lacklustre performances when given a chance this season and has been on the receiving end of a few harsh words from the Gunners faithful. However, he is nonetheless an experienced and capable right back and a hard working and solid performance in Munich would go a long way to repairing his reputation.

One thing is for sure, he has a tough night on his hands against the lively Douglas Costa and how he handles him will be crucial to the outcome of the game.

Laurent Koscielny

Koscielny is the best central defender in both squads and a good performance from the big Frenchman will be vital to getting something from this game. If he can assert his authority on the match early and soak up the atmosphere, we have a very good chance of keeping the door locked and getting a result in Munich.

The defence are in for a tough night in the face of some of the best attackers in the world, but they handled them well in the first leg and will hopefully do so again.
