3 young strikers Arsenal should give a chance to

Arsenal are a club proud of their youth development, with a flurry of stars coming through the ranks to impress in the senior team.

Naturally that can’t happen all the time and fix every hole in the squad that needs to be filled, which leads to investment in the transfer market, but it’s definitely something Arsenal should consider- especially with the other option being a multi-million signing.

Many in the media have cried out since the summer for Arsenal to sign a new striker but the need isn’t as apparent as many believe. Olivier Giroud is thriving this season, joint-top scorer within the Arsenal squad with nine goals, and Theo Walcott has shone in a forward role.

With Arsenal’s favoured line-up featuring just one striker, and both current options within the squad impressing, the necessity to splash the cash on a first-team forward isn’t pressing- especially when we have young players in the squad that can step-up.

Sure, these players may not be able to take the pressure of first-team football week in, week out but if Giroud and Walcott keep up their current form they won’t need to- and as a result this three strikers can be considered an alternative option, one that would cost Arsenal a lot of money.

Hit Giroud & Walcott below to see THREE young strikers Arsenal should hand a chance to!

Chuba Akpom

Akpom is a promising attacking prospect for the Gunners and at just 20-years-old is already looking like will break into the first team in the coming years.

He’s on loan to Hull City at the moment and has three goals in twelve appearances for Steve Bruce’s side. Akpom impressed in the pre-season for us, but with us challenging for the title, opportunities to bed in youngsters are limited. It was a great decision to let him go out and get first team football and he is reaping the awards.

Akpom has a lethal combination of attributes for a forward in the modern game as he is big, strong, athletic, fast, intelligent and a great finisher. He’s scored plenty of goals for the Arsenal and England youth setups and with his form in helping Hull to the top of the Championship, he will get his chance at Arsenal sooner rather than later.

Alex Iwobi

Nigerian international Alex Iwobi is another player who deserves another chance sooner rather than later.

The 21-year-old is a hugely promising talent and has done well in the rare opportunities he has been given in the first-team. He was a victim of scrutiny from the media after the unfortunate 3-0 defeat in the League Cup against Sheffield Wednesday, but the assured performances he has given playing around more experienced players in the first-team is a fairer reflection of his talents.

He has a big future at the club, however with us knocked out of the League Cup so early, he well may be sent out on loan soon with Reading, Birmingham and Sheffield United thought to be on his trail.

Yaya Sanogo

Many Gunners will disagree with me on this one, however I still feel Sanogo has enough about him to be given another chance.

After a disappointing loan spell with Ajax, he is on his way back to the Emirates in January, following another previously underwhelming spell at Crystal Palace last season.

Despite showing glimpses of what he can do for us, he never quite proved enough that he can pose a threat to Oliver Giroud in the first team.

However the 6ft, 4 Frenchman, who is still just 22, has plenty of raw talent to offer Arsenal up front when we are desperate for striking options.

There is a powerful, goal scoring and complete centre-forward in there somewhere, he just needs the confidence to find it. He was branded our future after his four goals against Benfica in the Emirates cup – he at least deserves one last chance to show that he can be.
