4 Arsenal men who deserve a chance against Aston Villa

This weekend brings the end of Premier League football for another season but there’s still work to be done for Arsenal, who need to beat Aston Villa and hope Newcastle United overcome Tottenham Hotspur to steal second-spot, whilst just one point is enough to secure a spot in the Champions League group stages.

In the grand scheme of things though, the result itself isn’t that important as Arsenal will have been wondering what might have been. Therefore, although it would be great to see us overhaul our great north London rivals, Arsenal should use this final game as an opportunity to give a chance to some fringe players.

With many of the squad heading off to international competitions this summer, with the European Championships and Copa America on the horizon, we could see some big names absent. That’s not to worry not, as we have the players in our squad to counteract these absentees.

We asked @DanGaleaStJohn to identify some players he feels should start this weekend, let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Jack Wilshere

It was good to see him get 65 minutes under his belt against City. He’s still not fully match fit, but he looked sharp and was well in the mix of everything. I can definitely see him getting more game time, especially if Ozil is still unfit and sits the final game out. The grit he brings to the team are akin of Sanchez’s energy, and he is probably also dying to impress Roy Hodgson.

Joel Campbell

He should have started the majority of games since the turn of the new year, but for some reason known only to the manager, he has mostly featured from the bench (if fortunate enough to). Iwobi needs a breather, and his impact has lessened considerably of late, so Campbell definitely deserves a start in what could be his final game for Arsenal.

Kieran Gibbs

I’m not quite sure what’s happened to him. We’ve seen him so sparingly this season that I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave the club in summer. But I’d be massively disappointed to see the end of a player who’s been with the club for donkey’s years. Monreal’s contributions have dwindled of late, so it wouldn’t necessary be a bad thing starting Gibbs.

Calum Chambers

He featured in the U21 play-off final along with Campbell. Like most of the people on this list, bar Wilshere, he has seemingly dropped out of the first team squad, and should probably be sent out on loan next season, because he does have a lot of potential. I prefer Chambers in a central position, but I am undecided whether or not I prefer him as a midfielder or a defender.
