Francis Jeffers

Always one of the first names that springs to mind when starting a conversation about Arsene Wenger’s least successful purchases in his long spell as Arsenal boss, Francis Jeffers might be the reason the French boss has been so frugal with his money over the years.
Jeffers once cost Arsenal £8 million from Everton in 2001 and in those days, that was quite a fee with Jeffers being one of Arsenal’s most expensive imports at the time.
The self confessed ‘fox in the box’ endured a torrid time at Arsenal however with injuries plaguing his time at Highbury, not to mention the player simply not being good enough with the likes of Thierry Henry and Sylvain Wiltord streets ahead of him in the pecking order.
Ending up with just four goals in 22 Premier League appearances, Jeffers was a poor signing all round and didn’t Arsene Wenger know it when sending him back to former club Everton on loan in 2003/04.
