5 La Liga targets that could follow Castillejo to Arsenal this summer

Arsenal’s major overhaul this summer is set to see the Gunners seek a wealth of top-class additions to bolster their ranks and Spanish football could be an area that the North London side look to exploit in the close season.

In recent years, Arsenal have signed the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez from Spanish football, whilst they also boast the likes of Santi Cazorla, Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal amongst their ranks.

Those players could easily help another La Liga signing settle into life at the Emirates Stadium and there’s likely to be plenty of top-class players available this summer, as targets seek a transfer to help boost their standing ahead of the World Cup next summer.

There’s also a number of frustrated players at top clubs that Arsenal could use to their advantage, as they did previously with the captures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, whilst lower-tier clubs struggle to keep hold of their big names.

One man linked with a move to Arsenal is Villarreal winger Samuel Castillejo, who could be seen as a direct replacement for Alexis, and the Gunners could bring these five La Liga targets with the Spanish forward to the Premier League.

Arda Turan

The 30-year-old Turk hasn’t quite had things his way since swapping Atletico Madrid for Barcelona two-years ago and he’s likely to seek an exit this summer, which could bring the veteran to the Premier League and potentially to Arsenal.

As an experienced wide-man, Arsenal may seek his services to bolster their ranks ahead of potential departures for the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arda Turan- with the Gunners being linked to his services.

Whilst he wouldn’t be the stand-out name fans are crying out for, he’d certainly be a decent addition.

Jose Gaya

Nacho Monreal has not put in inspiring performance levels this season and the Gunners are set to seek a new first-choice left-back this season, with Valencia ace Jose Gaya amongst their targets- although Manchester City stand as the favourites for the full-back.

Turning 22 in May, Gaya could excel with the Gunners and, with Hector Bellerin on the opposite side, Arsenal would have the wide-areas of their defence sorted for the next decade- and Gaya also boasts the potential to be one of Europe’s finest in the coming years.

Isco

Spanish ace Isco has struggled to earn regular football with Real Madrid, particularly from a starting position, and Mesut Ozil’s exit this summer could see the former Malaga man stand as the perfect fit for the Gunners- and his capability out-wide also means he could potentially replace Alexis Sanchez.

Turning 25 next month, Isco still has plenty of years ahead of him and would be a top-class capture for the Gunners, as the Spaniard’s versatility would be a huge asset. As well as being capable of playing out-wide or as a number ten, Isco could also be seen as the long-term replacement for Santi Cazorla and the ideal partner to Granit Xhaka in deep midfield.

James Rodriguez

Another man at Real Madrid frustrated with his opportunities, James Rodriguez is set for a high-profile transfer this summer and, whilst the Colombian hasn’t been directly linked with Arsenal, the star from the 2014 World Cup is heavily touted for a switch to the Premier League.

Arsenal would have to pay a premium price for James’ services but he could stand as the ideal big-name target for the Gunners, particularly if Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil leave. Like Isco, James is capable of playing out-wide if required but his best position would probably be Ozil’s current spot- so the Gunners could have a ready-made replacement if the World Cup winner elects to leave.

Antoine Griezmann

A dream target for Arsenal, the Gunners would likely have to set a transfer record if they’re to land Antoine Griezmann and would have to fend-off the interest from Manchester United- who continue to be touted as favourites for the services of the French striker.

However, unlike United, Arsenal’s striking ranks aren’t too competitive and they’d be able to offer Griezmann a starring central role in the side- whereas Jose Mourinho’s side may push him out wide, as they already boast Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford.

Whilst it’s unlikely Arsenal will land the services of the Atletico Madrid star, making a bid would certainly be a statement of intent.
