5 more concrete bids Arsenal are likely to make this summer

While Arsenal supporters received the disappointing news that Lyon have turned down the Gunners’ £29.3 million offer for Alexandre Lacazette today, it’s at least reassuring that they’re trailing him.

With concrete Arsenal transfer talk having been thin on the ground since the Jamie Vardy deal went dead, at least there’s now evidence of Arsene Wenger looking to pin down a top class striker.

Options have been dwindling all summer long and in all honesty, Alexandre Lacazette potentially looks like the last top class striker available on the market with Gonzalo Higuain heading to Juventus.

While Lyon continue to boldly claim that Lacazette isn’t for sale, we expect that the player will be getting increasingly restless having been loyal to stick around for the past few seasons.

Arsenal completed a classic move by submitting a low opening offer and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners will return for the French international.

Gooners will certainly be hoping so given the fact Lacazette has maintained his reputation of being a clinical goalscorer in Ligue 1 despite missing out on Didier Deschamps’ French squad for Euro 2016.

With plenty of time still left for Arsenal to get the players they need, today we list FIVE more concrete bids the Gunners are likely to make before August is over.

Alexandre Lacazette (Again!)

Surely Arsenal won’t abandon their pursuit of Alexandre Lacazette after seeing their opening offer of £29.3 million rejected?

Pitching low in Lyon’s current financial struggles, Arsenal seem to have been trying their luck but surely a bid closer to the 50 million Euro mark would force the French side to reconsider their stance?

As mentioned at the outset, Lacazette appears to be one of, if not the final top class striker potentially available on the transfer market this summer so Arsenal better have a plan in place surrounding a second bid.

Wissam Ben Yedder

While Arsenal fans would be endorsing a second attempt to sign Alexandre Lacazette, the tabloids have been awash with another Gunners striking target today.

And that man is Toulouse’s Wissam Ben Yedder.

An unfamiliar name to most but nevertheless, the 25-year-old has struck 63 goals in 156 league appearances for TFC.

It appears this prolific record has got Arsene Wenger interested with the Daily Star claiming that the French-born striker could be about to make a decision on whether to join Arsenal or Sevilla very soon.

Riyad Mahrez

Since the weekend, the biggest transfer rumour that has got Arsenal fans nattering is the potential arrival of Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez at Emirates Stadium.

With Eurosport France having boldly claimed over the weekend that the Algerian international has chosen to join Arsenal, there is yet to be any concrete evidence of an official Gunners bid.

That said, with the player having recently seen N’Golo Kante join Chelsea, you can imagine that the PFA Player of the Year is in two minds right now and ultimately, it appears he will have the final say on whether to leave.

Surely the Gunners have to force Leicester City’s hand with a mega money bid before August is out?

Jason Denayer

Back on July 18th, The Sun claimed that Arsenal were lining up a double swoop for both Manchester City’s Jason Denayer and Borussia Dortmund’s Matthias Ginter.

While Denayer was ultimately the Belgian international who Hal Robson-Kanu made look foolish to help dump the Belgians out of Euro 2016, he is still a highly-rated prospect ready for the here and now.

Rob Holding arrived at Arsenal from Bolton last week but just a year older, Denayer has Champions League experience and also experience of playing at Euro 2016.

While Pep Guardiola might not want to do Arsenal any favours after getting nowhere in trying to lure Hector Bellerin to Manchester City so far this summer, Denayer is going to find first team opportunities hard to come by.

With Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala ahead of him in the centre back pecking order, not to mention Vincent Kompany of course, we think Arsenal should try and tempt the Citizens into a sale.

Jeison Murillo

Plenty of centre back’s have been linked with a transfer to Emirates Stadium this summer and one of them is Intr Milan’s Colombian international Jeison Murillo.

While the Gunners seem to have been sold up the garden path in their reported pursuit of team-mate Mauro Icardi, perhaps Arsene Wenger should be focusing his efforts on Murillo instead.

Earlier this month on July 15th, the Daily Star claimed Arsenal were in talks with Inter Milan over Murillo’s signature but we haven’t heard much else since.

Standing at 6 ft 0 in, Murillo is a combative presence and if there is any truth in the talks that have already taken place, we would expect Arsenal to at least make an official bid before August is over.
