5 most improved Arsenal players this season

Arsenal’s team this term boasts a massive difference to the squad we’ve had in recent years, despite the majority of the team remaining the same, but the players really have picked things up a notch.

The Gunners head into February well in the battle for the title race, in the fourth round of the FA Cup and with a Champions League showdown with Barcelona. Whilst none of that will be easy, Arsene Wenger’s side have given us more reason to be confident.

Whilst the big name players perform and make a good account of themselves, it’s also been a chance for the fringe players to step-up and the squad players to get themselves noticed. Even our stars have kicked onto a higher level, it’s been fantastic to watch.

Here we will detail the five players we believe have been the most improved thus far this season. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Mesut Ozil

The German maestro has always been a superstar in name and prestige since his £42m move from Madrid in 2013, but to the football world, there was a sense that he hadn’t quite lived up to his status as a world beater at the Emirates.

This season though, with a full pre-season and not suffering a fitness drain from a summer tournament, he has made critics and doubters eat their words with consistently superb performances and playing the best football of his career.

He is blessed with pure class and talent, but he has improved this season so much that sublime quality and a top class performance is expected of him in every game. With a record breaking 16 assists and 3 goals in 21 Premier League games, it’s Mesut Ozil who is undoubtedly the most improved Gunner this season.

Hector Bellerin

Hector was thrown in at the deep end at just 19 last season after a long term injury to Mathieu Debuchy and after a breakthrough where he helped us win the FA Cup and secure Champions League football , the Spaniard has never looked back.

He cemented his place as the first choice right-back some time ago with his blistering pace and defensive maturity, but it’s his world class performances against Bayern and United in particular this season that put him on the map as one of the best young right-backs in the world.

He is now a guaranteed starter and has gone from a talented wonder kid, to a solid first team regular this season. It’s easy to take his improvement for granted, but all credit should go to him for his attitude in making the step up and Arsene Wenger for giving him the opportunity.

Olivier Giroud

From being dropped early in the season to being booed by his French fans at the Stade De France for poor form, it was a tough start to the season for the big Frenchman.

What a reaction though. There was no sulking from Giroud as he pulled his socks up and took his chance when Theo Walcott got injured. In a drastic improvement of his form he’s managed 18 goals already this season and apart from one or two games where he’s missed chances, he has been fantastic up front and is arguably now one the best strikers in Europe.

Nacho Monreal

Monreal received plenty of kind words last season for his solid performances, but this season he has been even better. He rarely puts a foot wrong and has completely reversed his early reputation as a weak link in the side.

He’s equally as strong going forward as he is in defence and his relationship with Alexis Sanchez has been an underrated factor in the teams strong performances this season.

Joel Campbell

It was only a few months Campbell was being written off as a failed squad player who wasn’t good enough, but what a difference some game time has made. When Sanchez comes back, it looks like it be Theo Walcott and the Ox that make way for him in the first team on the right after a vast improvement in his performances and the great relationship he has developed with his team mates.
