5 ‘transfer priorities’ Arsenal MUST consider this January

It’s only October and the Arsenal squad has been decimated by injury. Surprised? Me neither. Nonetheless, January becomes even more crucial than before. The back line was already threadbare and Koscielny’s injury compounds that tenfold. Some would say a centre back was needed even before Vermalean’s departure this summer (and they would be right) so Wenger simply cannot afford to let January pass without signing a centre back. In fact, Arsenal need two.

Chambers will be first choice right back with Debuchy out and should not be burdened with doubling as back up centre back as well at such a young age. Monreal did ok yesterday, but two natural centre backs should be brought in to relieve both Mertesacker and Koscielny. A defensive midfielder is the other big need that should have been addressed in the summer and must be rectified in January. Wenger recently announced his intention to do business in January and we can only hope he keeps his word.

   Yann M’Vila

The Rubin Kazan man becomes a free agent in the summer and therefore could become available in January for a cut price. The 24 year old is an exceptional ball winner using his pace, strength, and athleticism to break up opposition play. He is also good with the ball at his feet and would fit into Arsenal’s style of play.

   Winston Reid

The Hammers captain has been immense for West Ham and instrumental in their climb into fourth. He has Premier League experience in abundance and would not be cup tied which adds to his appeal. Strong and intelligent, Reid would make a fabulous understudy to Mertesacker and Koscielny. West Ham will be reluctant to sell, but a big bid should prize him away.

Mats Hummels

Arsenal’s reported interest will come as good news for gooners. Wenger is allegedy lining up a 30 million pound move for the player which I suspect would be enough to secure his services. He is worth the sum and would immediately challenge for a place in the XI.

Sami Khedira

The name we are all sick of hearing, but wish was an Arsenal player. He would be a significant signing and instantly make us a better side. He would be Arsenal’s very own answer to Matic and Fernandinho and could really push us over the line in big games. Khedira needs no introduction, as he has experience in abundance.

 William Carvalho

Another name linked to Arsenal in recent months and another player I feel can really take Arsenal higher. Carvalho is as robust as they come, full of energy and determination and would be a considerable step up from Arteta and Flamini. He has been excellent for Sporting Lisbon this year.

A combination of any of these five players would strengthen Arsenal considerably.
