Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table with a dominant 3-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday.

THE LOWDOWN: BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Goals from William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira ensured that Arsenal restored their one-point lead over Manchester City, leading the way into the international break.

It was an important victory for Mikel Arteta’s side, who made the perfect response after their 3-1 defeat to Manchester United last time out.

There was no Oleksandr Zinchenko and Martin Odegaard due to injuries, however, the Gunners were boosted by the return of Thomas Partey.

Arsenal were quick to make their intent known,  with William Saliba grabbing his second goal in Gunners’ colours. The Frenchman met Bukayo Saka’s corner and the ball went off the far post and over the line to put the Gunners 1-0 up.

Overall, it was another brilliant outing for Saliba, who had a  100% take-on success, 89% pass accuracy, 70 touches, six duels contested, four won as well as two take-ons won to cap off his performance.

Gabriel Jesus headed home to double the lead for Arsenal. The in-form Brazilian lost his marker before delivering a fine finish after meeting Granit Xhaka’s brilliant cross. The 25-year-old now has four goals and three assists in seven Premier League games this season.

Fabio Vieira was the pick of the goals as he whipped home from 20 yards to put Arsenal 3-0 up shortly after half-time on his full Premier League debut. The Portuguese midfielder’s finish was sublime and made quite the impression in the absence of Odegaard.

THE LATEST: POSITIVE VIBES

Arsenal’s victory means they will head into the international break at the summit of the Premier League table. It is massive progress, especially when you consider that the Gunners had eight points less at this stage of the season last term.

Another major talking point came in the form of Ethan Nwaneri, who became the youngest player to ever feature in the Premier League after coming on as a substitute in the closing minutes of the game.

THE VERDICT: SLOW AND STEADY

It was a convincing performance and a convincing result to go with and Arsenal are deserved league leaders at the moment.

Asides the win, it was refreshing to see that Arteta could call on other quality players even with the notable absence of key names, highlighted by Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

There is a feel-good atmosphere at the club for now and the ultimate test of their mentality will come after the international break, when fierce rivals Tottenham visit the Emirates for a crunch clash.
