Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken about his previous row with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

THE LOWDOWN: KLOPP’S CONDUCT

Earlier this week, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was charged by the Football Association with improper behaviour following his sending-off during Liverpool’s win over Manchester City. The German reacted angrily toward referee Anthony Taylor and he was shown a red card.

Back in November 2021, Klopp and Mikel Arteta were engaged in a touchline row. Although the game ended in a 4-0 bashing for the Gunners, an argument ensued on the touchline which needed the intervention of one of Klopp’s coaching staff to pull him back.

Following the latest incident, Arteta has stressed the need for managers to be responsible while they are on the touchline.

THE LATEST: RESPONSIBILITY

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, in his own thoughts, believes all Premier League managers have a responsibility to coordinate themselves appropriately on the touchline during matches.

The Spaniard understands emotions run high while games are on, but they also need to keep it in check.

“We do have a responsibility, not only to the referees, but to the game and the way we want it to be played and respected,” Arteta said.

“I have enough with my behaviour. I am trying to do the right thing for our club. It is very intense. It gets heated.

“There are moments you have seen in the last few games where VAR has to step in and there is a lot of controversies and a lot of moments when the result is in the air because it spins on a decision.

“It is not easy to manage, but we have a huge responsibility. If I have to watch myself on a camera after a match, there are probably things I would do differently.

“But once you are there, the way you talk, even to your own players, you might do it differently.

“It is something we have to learn. We are all conscious of it. Sometimes the heat of the game makes you behave in certain ways.”

THE VERDICT: GOOD POINT

Managers are like captains of a ship, with a lot of responsibility on their hands. Hence, it is important for the gaffers to try to be of good conduct at all times despite the possibility of emotions getting high.
