Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that the Gunners will be active on the summer transfer deadline day.

THE LOWDOWN: ACTIVE ARSENAL, EXCELLENT START

The Gunners did some early transfer business with the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City. In terms of outgoings, erratic fullback NunoTavares was sent out on loan to Marseille, while Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira were the notable permanent exits.

On the field of play, Arsenal have started the season in stunning fashion, winning all five of their opening Premier League games. It is the first time in almost two decades that the Gunners will be achieving such a feat in the Premier League and it has come under Mikel Arteta’s watch.

THE LATEST: MORE BUSINESS TO BE DONE

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed the Gunners’ plans for the Transfer Deadline Day amid issues in midfield and out wide.

Asides from spending around £120million on Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner, the latest injury predicament has worsened the club’s situation over the last few days.

Midfielder Mohamed Elneny’s fresh injury, coupled with Thomas Partey’s unreliability, has prompted frantic action to be taken in the midfield areas. Now Arteta has confirmed worrying updates on both.

“That’s not good news,” Arteta told reporters after the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Aston Villa when asked about the severity of Elneny’s injury. “We still need to see another specialist, but I’m afraid that we’re gonna lose Mo for a while.”

As regards Partey’s issue, he said: “He’s going to be out for a while. I don’t know how long that period is going to be. It’s not the first injury he had in that area, so the recovery is more for the doctors to put the timeline and see how he evolves.”

It is expected that both players will be out for a while and another man missing is Oleksandr Zinchenko who has not featured in the past two games for the Gunners.

Arteta went on to admit that the late disruption has impacted Arsenal’s transfer policy in the final few days.

“Well, we were pretty protected in that position, and now we are more exposed,” he said.

We have to be prepared for uncertainties, injuries and suspensions. Things like that can happen, especially this season which is going to be really strange with the World Cup. We try to protect from that, but it’s not easy.”

When asked if the club will be going to complete any business before the window closes on Thursday night, Arteta went on to confirm that Arsenal could bring someone in if the opportunity presented itself.

“The club has been super supportive to keep improving the squad and the team as we can,” he added. “If the right player is available and we can do it we will try.”

THE VERDICT: SIGNINGS MUST BE MADE

Arsenal are locked in a tight corner at the moment, and going into the market in search of a temporary solution is quite important. Although Albert Lokonga did well in the win against Aston Villa, another midfielder and a winger should be brought in before the window is shut.

Leicester’s Youri Tielemans and Palmeiras’ Danilo have been linked as players who could come in before the September 1 midnight deadline.
