Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stated that summer signing Fabio Vieira will be given more minutes on the pitch in the coming weeks.

THE LOWDOWNSLOW START

Fabio Vieira, alongside Gabriel Jesus, Marquinhos, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Matt Turner arrived in North London this summer.

Although not known to be an injury-prone player at Porto, the midfielder missed a chunk of Arsenal’s pre-season preparations upon his arrival and has had to miss a series of Premier League games since the season kicked off.

The 22-year-old made the squad in the past four games but has only been able to make one appearance as a substitute for Mikel Arteta’s side and that came in the 3-1 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday.

THE LATEST: “A LOT MORE OF HIM”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, while speaking ahead of the Europa League game against FC Zurich, disclosed that new man Fabio Vieira has put his injury setback behind him, adding that Gunners fans will see him more and enjoy him.

“We were looking for players that could play in three positions in the frontline and in the attacking midfielder positions,” Arteta began.

“We were looking for very specific qualities in the market and when I saw him, I really liked what I saw. Straight away, I was convinced that he was a player who can help us go to the next level and that he had the right personality and character to play for our club.

“It’s a shame that we detected an injury when we were doing the medical. He had no pre-season and everything has been delayed, but hopefully, you’re going to see a lot more of him in the next few weeks, and I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it.”

THE VERDICT: GOOD UPDATE

Vieira further adds to the depth Arsenal has in midfield. Just like Arteta emphasized, his ability to play in multiple positions is a thing of joy for the fans and more importantly, Bukayo Saka, who has been playing a lot of games lately. Good to have the Portuguese return to full fitness.

All is now left for the fans to be patient and watch the 22-year-old settle into the team nicely and hopefully, he will be able to contribute positively.
