Pundit Paul Merson has warned Mikel Arteta that Arsenal could be in trouble if Gabriel Jesus gets injured.

THE LOWDOWN: LEADING THE WAY

Gabriel Jesus has been Arsenal’s star man this season, leading right from the front. Jesus who is just 25, has been utilizing his rich experience of four Premier League winners medals from his time at Manchester City at the Emirates this season.

The Brazillian has scored three times and made three assists in his opening seven appearances across all competitions. His power play and dynamism have helped Arsenal rack up six wins out of seven competitive games this campaign and the North London outfit are looking strong for a top-four finish.

THE LATEST: “MASSIVE PROBLEMS”

Former Arsenal man Paul Merson has warned Mikel Arteta that Arsenal will have ‘massive problems’ if star forward Gabriel Jesus gets injured, as revealed in his latest column on Sportskeeda.

Academy graduate Eddie Nketiah is Jesus’ deputy in the centre-forward position, but Merson thinks it’s a ‘different ball game’ if the Englishman starts games regularly.

“If Gabriel Jesus gets injured, they have massive problems,” said Merson. “Eddie Nketiah is a good lad, but playing and scoring every week is a different ball game.

“I don’t want to say too much, but Arsenal are in a good position to secure a top-four finish and I hope they can make it count this time.”

THE VERDICT: NKETIAH’S CHANCE?

Nketiah, 23, has not had the chance to lead the line regularly for the Gunners in recent months but he has shown that he can be trusted with a couple of his cameo appearances. Especially in the comeback win against Fulham, the Englishman turned the game around when he came on.

In Arsenal’s first Europa League game of the season in Zurich, Nketiah scored and assisted another in the 2-1 win. These are indications that he is ready for the fight ahead. However, no one wants Jesus injured, as his presence gives Arteta’s side more strength.
