Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that Gabriel Jesus is not pleased about his current form in front of goal.

THE LOWDOWN: STRONG START, RECENT STRUGGLES

The Brazilian has been in fine form since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in the summer.

Jesus hit the ground running for Arsenal, registering five goals in his first eight Premier League games. However, the Brazilian has struggled to find the back of the net in his last seven outings across all competitions.

Regardless, the 25-year-old continues to contribute with assists and all-round great play. This was the case in Arsenal’s 1-0 Europa League win over FC Zurich on Thursday night.

His link-up play was superb as always, although he did miss a couple of chances and should have been on the scoresheet at the very least.

THE LATEST: SUPPORT FROM THE BOSS

Speaking after the win over Zurich, Arteta gave his honest opinion on Jesus’ drought in front of goal.

Admitting Jesus is indeed bothered by his lack of goals in recent days, the Arsenal boss backed him to come good soon enough.

He said: “That’s going to change [his bad luck], he’s getting the situations, he’s getting the chances, he’s contributing to the team an awful lot, he’s helping to win matches, the way he competes for every ball in every single action is incredible.

“It will come, he needs to be patient, he’s been through that in the past and he needs to learn those lessons and don’t stop doing those other things that he’s doing so well, because that’s going to maintain the level of him and the team.”

Asked how Arsenal can beat Chelsea on Sunday, he added: “Play better than them. Earn the right to win, score one more goal and I’m sure we will win the game.”

THE VERDICT: CONTINUED PATIENCE

Admittedly, seven games is a lot of time for a striker to go without scoring but the positive is that Jesus continues to deliver in terms of all-round play.

Ian Wright also recently aired his worry about the forward’s drought but everyone is in agreement he will return to his previous form soon enough.

A big game against Chelsea awaits on Sunday and there will be no better time for the Brazilian than now to return to his scoring form.
