According to a report, Arsenal and Barcelona are in the race for the signing of a Premier League star.

THE LOWDOWN: MIDFIELDER SEARCH

It was a disappointing end to the summer transfer window for the Gunners as Aston Villa rejected multiple bids for Douglas Luiz and Palmeiras did not even entertain any offer from the North London club.

With that behind Mikel Arteta, Arsenal are now focused on the winter transfer window which opens after the World Cup, and have started identifying players who could improve the squad. Villa’s Luis and Youri Tielemans are still on the Gunners list, while Manuel Locatelli and the likes have been listed as well.

A Premier League star has now been linked with a move to the Emirates as well.

THE LATEST: INTEREST REIGNITED

Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Wolves midfielder, Ruben Neves, as Barcelona are also in the race for his signature.

The Portuguese star, since arriving in the Premier League, has become one of the top performers in his position. He keeps getting better, and many have tipped him to join a bigger club soon.

According to a report in Spain, Barcelona is now considering Neves as a replacement for Sergio Busquets and that has alerted the Gunners to reignite their interest in him.

Although Arsenal have had a longstanding interest in him, they seem to have been priced out of a move for him recently.

THE VERDICT: INTEREST ON POINT

Neves has two years left on his current Wolves contract and with his huge Premier League experience, he will be a good signing for the Gunners.

The lack of Champions League football at the Emirates has affected Arsenal’s chances of signing players in recent years and a return to the elite competition could be an advantage in the next window.
