Ex-Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster believes Gabriel Jesus will be a top signing for Arsenal, while also making a bold claim on the club’s Champions League hopes.

THE LOWDOWN: ACTIVE ARSENAL

Arsenal completed the signing of Jesus from Manchester City and the Brazilian forward has settled well into life at the club. He scored four goals during the club’s USA preseason tour, giving the team a new level of energy.

He is one of the five signings by the Gunners this summer, as the club has gone on a spending spree. Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Oleksandr Zinchenko are the other additions to join in the current window.

THE LATEST: MIXED REACTION

Foster, who is currently without a club, has taken to his YouTube to lay this claim about the Gunners’ new signing.

Speaking on how the North London team fared last season, he said:

“They (Arsenal) were struggling badly at the start of last season; it was a horrific start. It was horrible and Mikel Arteta was the favourite to get sacked. They kicked on but it was a disappointing end to the season as well. Looking at this summer, Gabriel Jesus is a massive signing, massive. I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves.”

Ben Foster has played against Jesus a couple of times and he is sure that the striker will help the team advance.

According to Foster, “Arsenal have been crying out for that type of player and I think he’s going to do really well. I do think they’ll have a good season and win some big games against some big teams, but I think they’ll just miss out on the Champions League places.”

THE VERDICT: JESUS WILL DELIVER

The focal point of Arsenal’s attack looked toothless for a large part of last season and the club is hopeful that Jesus can help transform the attack.

The once prolific Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looked out of sorts last season and fell out with the club at some point. Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette couldn’t deliver enough goals, scoring four goals in the entire campaign, two of which were penalties.

Going by what Jesus has shown since he joined the team, it is easy to agree with Foster that he will raise the level of Arsenal’s attack.
