Dimitar Berbatov has suggested that Real Madrid are in a position of regret for selling Martin Odegaard to Arsenal for just £30m.

THE LOWDOWN: FANTASTIC NORWEGIAN

Odegaard has enjoyed himself at the Emirates since he made his move permanent in the summer of 2021.

He has grown to become an efficient member of the squad and one with great influence that made Mikel Arteta hand him the captain’s armband before the start of the season.

He has enjoyed great start to the season and was at the heart of Arsenal’s comeback when he provided two assists to help the Gunners claim a massive comeback win against the Hammers in the London Derby last month.

He was also named the player of the month recently and scored a fine goal against Spurs at the weekend to help Arsenal extend their lead at the top.

THE LATEST: PUNDIT’S TALK

Dimitar Berbatov believes Real Madrid will be blaming themselves for selling Odegaard to Arsenal for just £30m.

The 24-year-old has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season.

Former Spurs striker Berbatov was also giving props to the Norway international and added that ‘there is a reason’ he is the captain, as he told Premier League Productions.

“If Real Madrid is watching, they are probably scratching their heads, ‘we didn’t judge him right, we didn’t have the patience’, said Berbatov.

“But I think that loan spells he had when he was at Real Madrid, to three different clubs, I think? That helped him develop and help him become what he is today.

“Of course, he is still very young and he’s going to get even better and more mature. But the way he plays, that maturity is even there now. We can see the tricks, the turns and the passes. He wants the ball. He doesn’t wait for the ball. He’s just going and chasing the game, rather than the game chasing him. He wants that responsibility.

“Maybe because of all this quality, that’s why he is the captain. There is a reason for him to be captain.”

THE VERDICT:  MORE THAN A BARGAIN

Odegaard felt a lot of pressure at Real Madrid as a fresh-faced teenager and moved to Arsenal to find his path.

Arteta has been able to help him find that form again and he has been in top shape for the Gunners since his move to the Emirates.

There is so much to come from him in the months and seasons to come, but the success of this season could mean a lot.
