Steve Nicol has slammed Bukayo Saka for producing an underwhelming performance in Arsenal’s defeat by Everton at Goodison Park.
THE LOWDOWN: BELOW-PAR PERFORMANCE
The Gunners suffered a second defeat of the season at the hands of Sean Dyche’s Everton on Saturday.
It was a game Mikel Arteta’s men failed to exert any form of dominance, missing a couple of chances and were easily cut open by the Toffees.
James Tarkowski scored the game’s only goal to hand his side the win. Just like Arsenal’s poor display, Saka was not at his best as he struggled to get into the groove throughout the game.
THE LATEST: PUNDIT’S COMMENTS
And Nicol claimed that it was arguably Saka’s worst game of the season for Arsenal.
“Martinelli never got a sniff out of Coleman. Same on the other side, Mykolenko gave Saka nothing. That’s probably the worst game we’ve ever seen from Saka this season,” he told ESPN.
THE VERDICT: QUITE TRUE
Just like the whole Arsenal team, Saka was not his usual self in the encounter and the Gunners duly paid for it.
Nicol’s comments may be accurate because Saka has been absolutely unbelievable this season. He’s been one of the best performers in the Premier League this term and such an average performance will be seen as “worst”.
Having said that, Saka still managed four key passes, according to Whoscored – the highest of any player in the match.
In addition, he also completed more dribbles than any other player on the pitch and no player had more attempts on goal than the youngster.
However, Arsenal and Saka will need to bounce back in the next game keep their title hopes alive.
