Moises Caicedo’s agent Manuel Sierra has blasted Brighton for denying the midfielder ‘the dream of his whole life’ by blocking his move to Arsenal.

THE LOWDOWN: DOUBLE REJECTION

Arsenal got their business in the January transfer window off to a slow start. Following the disappointment with Mudryk and the unfortunate injury sustained by Mohamed Elneny, signing a new midfielder became a priority.

The Gunners went all out in pursuit of Caicedo and multiple offers from the Premier League leaders were turned down. Even the open desire of the player to leave the club did not move the hierarchy at the AMEX stadium and discussions eventually broke down.

THE LATEST: AGENT’S OUTBURST

Sierra told Marca90Ec, via Olé: ‘The offers were received, you see what is on the table and Moises says that he wants to go forward, that it is the dream of his whole life. That it is an opportunity that may not be repeated in life.”

Caicedo, who was also linked with Chelsea, will now remain at Brighton for at least the rest of the season as chairman Tony Bloom refused to let him leave.

Commenting on the player’s statement, Sierra said: “We helped draft the statement. In that statement, he expresses his wish and his gratitude to the club because they gave him the chance to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.

“We don’t know what can happen tomorrow, maybe he trains and gets injured. We can’t know what’s going to happen.”

Caicedo was not involved in the FA Cup win against Liverpool after he was told to stay away, but he is now back in the fold.

THE VERDICT: MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Arsenal will most likely not come back for the Ecuadorian after signing Jorginho on deadline day.

By the way, there are also strong indications that the Gunners’ main target in the summer will be West Ham’s Declan Rice, and that will ultimately rule out another pursuit for Caicedo.
