Arsenal full-back Cedric Soares has reportedly suffered an injury setback and is not expected to feature in this weekend’s North London derby.

THE LOWDOWN: TURBULENT SEASON

Cedric Soares has battled match fitness for many weeks now and that has hindered him from featuring for Mikel Arteta’s side. He has only made the match-day squad four times this season, as he has not been given the opportunity to feature in games.

Recently, the Portuguese defender picked up an injury in training before Arsenal took on FC Zurich in the Europa League on September 8th. He went on to miss that game and the win over Brentford before the break.

Upon his return to training, Cedric was hoping to be fit for this weekend’s game against Spurs, but it appears that will not be possible.

THE LATEST: INJURY SETBACK

According to a report by GOAL, Cedric Soares won’t play against Tottenham this weekend after suffering an injury setback in Arsenal training.

Mikel Arteta has a number of fitness issues to check on ahead of the first North London derby of the season.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has been having some injury concerns lately, while Kieran Tierney suffered a head injury on international duty with Scotland.

Arteta is currently hopeful that one of them will be available for the clash but If both players miss out on the Tottenham game, Cedric Soares would be the alternative. But the GOAL report says the Portuguese suffered a setback in his recovery and his absence will now be extended.

With the latest update on the 31-year-old, Takehiro Tomiyasu may be the next option for Mikel Arteta ahead of Saturday’s clash.

THE VERDICT: UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT

Not the best of times for Cedric Soares and Arsenal. Mikel Arteta now has a couple of first-team players out injured. With about eight games to be played this month, it doesn’t help his side’s chance of remaining in the top four ahead of the World Cup break.

More concern for Arteta at left-back than at right-back because Ben White has been doing a decent job in that position since the season started. Regardless, Arsenal will be hoping that the rest of the squad members stay fit at this crucial stage of the season.
