Arsenal’s Europa League clash with PSV scheduled for Thursday has been postponed due to lack of police resources in London.

THE LOWDOWN: BUSY LONDON

Arsenal’s Europa League fixture with PSV Eindhoven has been postponed due to security reasons.

The Gunners were due to take on the Eredivisie giants in the Europa League on Thursday night, a contest that was set to take place at the Emirates Stadium in north London.

UEFA confirmed on Monday that the tie would not take place and that a new date for the match would be communicated in due course.

European football’s governing body said the postponement was due “to the severe limitations on police resources and organizational issues.”

This is due to plans for the state funeral for Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away last week at the age of 96, which will take place next Monday.

THE LATEST: SECOND POSTPONED GAME

In a statement on Arsenal’s website, the Gunners confirmed UEFA’s decision to postpone the fixture.

“The postponement follows liaison between UEFA, the Metropolitan Police and ourselves, after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“We are working with the authorities to reschedule the match and any tickets (including those purchased via Ticket Exchange or received via Ticket Transfer) and/or hospitality packages purchased for this fixture will be valid for the rescheduled date.”

“For any season ticket holders who have sold their ticket via Ticket Exchange or transferred their ticket via Ticket Transfer, your ticket will remain inactive for the rescheduled date.”

Arsenal’s Premier League fixture against Brentford, due for Sunday, will take place as scheduled, but was brough forward to an earlier date – 12:00pm and was also confirmed by the Gunners.

THE VERDICT: POTENTIAL HEADACHE

Arsenal will now have two fixtures to be squeezed at a future date and that could be problematic at some point. With the mid-season World Cup set to make the schedule even more difficult for players, the latest development puts Mikel Arteta in a very difficult situation.

It is more than obvious that Arsenal’s squad will be stretched to the maximum within the next couple months and the Gunners’ boss will need all hands on deck to ensure his side do not drop their early strong standards.
