Arsenal have completed the signing of defender Jakub Kiwior, the second arrival at the club this January.

THE LOWDOWN: JANUARY TRANSFER BUSINESS

Having seen a slow start to business in the January transfer window, Arsenal have become active in the last few days. At first, Mudryk, who has been a target since last summer, left Ukraine to pitch his tent with Chelsea, leaving the Arsenal plan hanging in the balance.

However, the North London outfit moved swiftly and reached an agreement with Leandro Trossard and was announced prior to the visit of Manchester United, who later played a part in the winning goal at the Emirates on Sunday.

A few hours later, a deal for Jakub Kiwior was also confirmed in the news and the Gunners have rightly announced his capture.

THE LATEST: NEW ARRIVAL

Jakub Kiwior has been signed by Arsenal from Spezia Calcio on a long-term contract, according to a statement from the club.

The 22-year-old Polish international defender made 43 appearances during his time with the Italian side, and was part of the national team squad at the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

His strong performances resulted in the left-sided central defender moving to Spezia in August 2021, where he had become a regular in the Serie A club’s starting line-up. During his time in Italy, Jakub made his full international debut and has now made nine appearances for Poland.

THE VERDICT: QUALITY ADDITION

Being a left-sided defender, he comes in as a straight back-up for Gabriel Magalhães in that backline. The young defender adds more quality to the club’s backline and it is in preparation for possible exits in the summer.

Arteta is fully building a young team that will be competitive in the seasons to come.
