Arsenal have been drawn alongside League One side Oxford United in the FA Cup third round.

THE LOWDOWN: FAVOURABLE TIE

Arsenal will begin their FA Cup campaign with a third-round tie against Oxford United at Kassam Stadium.

The Gunners were paired against the League One side at the draws which took place at Anfield on Monday evening.

Arsenal have been impressive this season under Mikel Arteta and are currently top of the Premier League with five points ahead of defending champions Manchester City.

The Gunners last won the FA Cup in 2020 – Arteta’s first trophy at the club as a manager – and will be aiming to win it for the 15th time by the time it gets underway in January 2023.

The North London side last faced Oxford in the competition back in 2003 at the same stage, which Arsenal won 2-0 at Highbury thanks to a Dennis Bergkamp strike and an own goal.

It is expected that the exact dates and kick-off times will be confirmed in due course, but the third-round ties are scheduled to take place between Friday, January 6 and Monday, January 9.

Liverpool lifted the trophy last year, beating Chelsea on penalties in the final at Wembley.

THE VERDICT: FIRST STEP

The FA Cup is usually an opportunity to clinch silverware and given what Arsenal have done this season, it is expected that the Gunners will give it a strong shot.

Hopefully, the current momentum will still be evident as we enter the final stretch of the season.
