Arsenal lead the way at the top of the Premier League, but do English football fans think the Gunners can sustain a title challenge?

THE LOWDOWN: EARLY STATEMENT

After going past the £100m mark in terms of transfer spending for the second summer in succession, many expected the Gunners to build on from their improvement towards the end of last season. However, no one could have predicted that Mikel Arteta’s men would boast a four-point gap at the top of the Premier League table after 10 matchdays.

Those include a 3-1 win over fierce rivals Tottenham followed by a hard fought 3-2 victory over Liverpool in consecutive gameweeks, meaning that a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United is the only blip for Arsenal so far this season.

Regardless, many pundits continue to doubt Arsenal’s challenge and their ability to sustain it, although we take a look at what some fans around the country think.

THE LATEST: FANS BACKING ARSENAL

A survey conducted by Offers.bet, which sought the insights of more than 2,000 football fans in the UK, revealed that supporters can see Arsenal maintaining their top spot, at least until December.

Who Will win be top of the Premier League at Christmas?

Arsenal – 55%

Man City – 35%

Tottenham – 4%

Man Utd – 3%

Chelsea – 3%

More than half of football fans surveyed are predicting that Arsenal will be top of the Premier League at Christmas, with 55% believing the Gunners will hold on to their current standing until at least Christmas Day.

Just over one in three fans believe that City will overtake Arsenal before Christmas, with only 10% of votes being shared amongst Tottenham, Man Utd and Chelsea.

Who Will win the Premier League?

Man City – 68%

Liverpool – 14%

Arsenal – 8%

Man Utd – 6%

Chelsea – 3%

Tottenham – 1%

The survey revealed that roughly two of every three fans believe that City will win the title. Liverpool are still second favourites to win the Premier League judging by this survey, with only 8% believing that Arsenal can hold on to their current standing and win the league. A mere 6% of fans believe that Man Utd will be crowned champions, with both Chelsea and Tottenham much less favoured.

With 55% of fans believing that Arsenal will still be top at Christmas, but only 8% believing that they will win it, fan opinion is clearly that Mikel Arteta’s side will keep going strong for now but bottle the title race after Christmas.

Who Will Finish Top 4?

Man City – 91%

Liverpool – 75%

Arsenal – 64%

Man Utd – 57%

Tottenham – 33%

Chelsea – 20%

With City all but nailed on for a top-four finish, fans are placing their confidence in Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd to secure the remaining Champions League spots. Three out of four fans believe that Liverpool will clinch a top-four position, with Arsenal (64%) and Man Utd (57%) the other most-fancied teams to join them.

THE VERDICT: TIME WILL TELL

Admittedly things are looking good for Arsenal at the moment, but it can all change rather quickly, so it makes sense to take it one game at a time rather than dreaming of the title at a premature stage of the season.

One thing is certain, though – the Gunners are genuine title contenders who can no longer be dismissed in that particular conversation.
