Luis Bardaji, who is the agent of Arsenal target Ivan Fresneda, has revealed the reasons behind the failed move to the Emirates.

THE LOWDOWN: PREVIOUS AGREEMENT

Following a string of eye-catching performances at right-back for Real Valladolid, Fresneda has emerged as one of the highly-rated prospects in La Liga this season.

Although the club are just sitting outside the relegation zone in 17th place, the 18-year-old has been impressive on the right side for them.

Several clubs, including those in La Liga, were keen to sign him but Arsenal were favourites to land the Spain U19 international.

The Gunners reportedly agreed to pay a £13 million transfer fee with the club at some point but the deal could not be completed for some reasons that the player’s agent has now decided to point out.

THE LATEST: REASON FOR FAILED MOVE

Luis Bardaji, Fresneda’s agent, revealed there as many as 30 clubs interested in the youngster, opening the door to a ‘historic’ summer move for his client.

“There have been around 30 teams interested,”  Bardaji told AS.

“But the truth is that he has hardly aroused interest in Spanish football, but in Germany, France or England there has been interest.

“Some because they had a specific need in this market and others with a vision of the future, but times are what they are.”

“Fresneda will be at Real Valladolid until the end of the season. We want him to have his feet on the ground and in other teams, he was not going to have the continuity he needs now.”

In addition, Fresneda had informed Valladolid fans he would not be leaving the club over the weekend.

THE VERDICT: THE RIGHT DECISION?

It is probably the right decision for the kid who is just having his breakthrough year in professional football.

His development is quite crucial and staying put at Valladolid will guarantee that than at the Emirates where his chances of playing will be limited.

He is highly talented and could make the move in the summer after he has completed a full campaign with the Spanish side.
