Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has claimed Manchester City still remain the favourites to win the Premier League title.

THE LOWDOWN: INTERESTING TITLE RACE

Redknapp made an appearance on the Mennie Talks podcast with Reece Mennie, where he talked about a lot of topics including the ongoing title race.

Arsenal and City are separated by only five points at the top of the Premier League. Things could have gone differently at the end of game week 22 but luck seemed to be on the side of the Gunners.

After a surprising loss to Everton on Sunday kept Arsenal’s lead at five points, Manchester City were expected to capitalise and cut the lead down to two points when they faced off against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

However, Antonio Conte’s men, in his absence, beat the defending champions to help their North London rivals remain five points clear at the top.

It was the fifth straight match that Pep Guardiola’s team had failed to score at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It was also the match that saw Harry Kane go clear as Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer.

His lone goal also propelled him into the Premier League 200 club as one of only three players – the others being Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney – to have hit that milestone.

THE LATEST: CITY REMAIN FAVOURITES

Redknapp talked about Arsenal’s chances with Mennie while also praising a few of their players and warning them about the threat of Man City.

Harry Redknapp, speaking to Reece Mennie on his podcast, said: “I think Arsenal are playing fantastic football”.

“The football they’re playing and the team just looks so well balanced. Two great wingers in Saka and Martinelli, they’re strong in midfield – Odegaard looks a real player, I love the way he plays, he’s just class. And they look solid at the back, Ramsdale is good.”

However, the former Spurs boss still believes the reigning champions will win the title come May.

He added: “I don’t know though, I’ve still got a feeling Man City are gonna win it, I think they’re gonna come with a rally and pip them. But it’s gonna be tight. Arsenal are gonna take some catching, but the one team you don’t want chasing you down is Man City!

“If it was anyone else chasing them I’d say yeah fine, but they’re so dangerous. Look how they turned it around at Spurs in the second half, and look at the bench in that game – crazy! Dias and Foden not getting a game and they could walk into any team. All the changes Pep can make everywhere is just ridiculous. I think if Arsenal get a couple of injuries it will be a big problem for them.”

THE VERDICT: WE’LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE

Given that City have won the league four of the last five ocassions, it is easy to see why people naturally expect them to win again. However, it must be said that the reigning champions look the weakest under Guardiola in quite some time. They have also lost four games in the current campaign, which is already more than they did in the whole of last season.

However, there are a lot of games remaining and results like that of the past weekend clearly shows we can expect a lot of twists between now and the end of the season.
