Arsenal have provided an update on the status of injured midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

THE LOWDOWN: INJURY SETBACK

Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in the midfield department some weeks back after it was reported in the media.

The injury setback suffered by Mohamed Elneny left Arsenal light in the middle of the par, forcing Mikel Arteta to go into the transfer market for a quick replacement.

Arsenal approached Brighton for Moises Caicedo but when they were not forthcoming, the Gunners moved on to Jorginho and he has been snapped up on deadline day.

THE LATEST: UPDATE

“Following an injury sustained in a recent training session, subsequent assessments have confirmed that Mohamed Elneny has a significant injury to his right knee, read an Arsenal statement.

“Mo has had successful surgery in London and will be ruled out for an extended period of time. A more detailed timescale will be established once the early stages of rehabilitation have been completed.”

“Everyone at the club will be offering Mo all the support he needs and working hard with him so he can return to action as soon as possible.”

THE VERDICT: UNFORTUNATE NEWS

It came at a wrong time for Arsenal. His unfortunate injury forced the Gunners to return to the market to get a cover for Thomas Partey.

Nevertheless, Arsenal will have to move on with Jorginho and hope that the Egyptian recovers adequately in no distant time.
