Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu, currently on World Cup duty with Japan, missed his side’s second game against Costa Rica due to a slight injury.

THE LOWDOWN: RECURRING STRUGGLES

Tomiyasu’s struggles due to lack of fitness since the second half of last season has stemmed into the current campaign.

The Japanese, who is highly reliable on his day, has been battling different kinds of injuries in recent weeks and that has seen him miss games for Arsenal. His situation forced Arteta to stick with Ben White at right back when the season started.

Upon his return to full fitness, he was unable to win back his place before the season went on the world cup break.

For Japan, he was a second-half substitute in their 2-1 win over Germany and didn’t make an appearance against Costa Rica because he was feeling some discomfort.

THE LATEST: INJURY UPDATE

According to injury expert Ben Dinnery, Takehiro Tomiyasu is currently nursing a hamstring injury which he picked on World Cup duty with Japan.

That injury ruled him out of the second game because he was feeling uncomfortable.

Speaking to Gekisaka about his absence in Japan’s previous group game, Tomiyasu told the media outlet: “During the Germany game, I felt uncomfortable as soon as I entered.”

“After the game, I took care of it [the hamstring] and it was also examined at the hospital. It wasn’t that bad. The rest is the feeling, I don’t think it’s a problem. Realistically, I’m going to aim to return for the last match of the group.”

However, having experienced the same recurring hamstring trouble in Qatar, Dinnery believes that Arsenal fans will be worried about Tomiyasu potentially aggravating the injury.

Dinnery told GIVEMESPORT: “The concern with Tomiyasu is that he’s had ongoing muscular problems for over the last 12 months or so.

“The worry with regards to him [is] exacerbating that problem, unfortunately for Arsenal fans.

“They won’t want to see him suffer another major setback that could keep them out long-term.”

THE VERDICT: NOT GOOD NEWS

His lack of fitness has robbed Arsenal of his excellent and assured performances down the right-hand side. Arsenal fans can only hope that he will be in perfect shape by the time the season resumes.
