Gabriel Jesus did not hide his disappointment after failing to bag a goal as Arsenal dropped points at St. Mary’s Stadium after a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

THE LOWDOWN: MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Gabriel Jesus accepted his share of the blame for Arsenal’s winning streak coming to an end at Southampton.

The Brazil striker cut a dejected look and was obviously furious at himself after failing to get on the scoresheet. The £45m summer signing scored five goals in eight games after his arrival at the Emirates but has now gone five games without a goal.

Jesus missed three big chances at St Mary’s as the Saints fought from behind to salvage a draw. Mikel Arteta’s team remain two points clear of City at the top of the table with three games left before the World Cup break – and six games in all across all competitions.

THE LATEST: NO EXCUSES

Arteta described the result as ‘two points dropped’ and Jesus echoed similar thoughts in his assessment of the game.

“It feels like we lost the game – because of the way we played, the way we created a lot, in the first half more than in the second,” Jesus told Arsenal.com after the match.

“In the second, we dropped a level again.

“It was a little bit similar to what happened against Leeds. We have to realise that, be smart and see what we are doing wrong, and then improve.”

He added: “We have to improve and try to come back at the same level at which we started the season, as a team and individuals. [We’ll] work hard and then come back stronger.

“There’s no excuses. We have some days to prepare, to work on what we have to do on the pitch. Obviously, there are some players who need more time to recover, but like I said, it’s all about focusing on the pitch.

“We are creating chances, like in the last game. But the balls aren’t going in the net, and today that happened again. Now is the time to realise, breathe and try to come back.”

THE VERDICT: ON TO THE NEXT ONE

Indeed, Jesus could have changed the story had he converted one of his chances but it’s time to look forward to the next fixture rather than moan about a result that cannot be changed.

Admittedly, the Brazilian is going through a rough patch in front of goal but continues to show the workrate upfront as we all know. It is only a matter of time before he gets back to his usual scoring form like the start of the season.
