Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus couldn’t hide his emotions after he was called up to the Brazil World Cup squad.

THE LOWDOWN: WORLD CUP BOUND

Jesus has been immense for Arsenal at the Emirates this season with his impressive work rate and selfless display upfront. By doing so, he has helped Arsenal to stay on top of the log till Christmas.

However, his personal form in front of goal has not been excellent, as he failed to score in his past ten appearances for the Gunners before the World Cup break.

Back in September, he missed some international games for Brazil, but he was deservedly called up to the World Cup squad released earlier this month.

THE LATEST: WORLD CUP FEELING

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus admits he was very emotional after he received his World Cup call-up, adding it brought back memories of his first-ever call-up.

Reminiscing on the moment he was informed he will be going to the World Cup, Jesus admitted he was quite emotional and that memories of his first inclusion in the senior national team came to him once again.

“I was at home,” Jesus began.

“I’m alone, you know, my whole family is in Brazil.

“So I was alone in my bed just in front of the TV, watching. And then when I heard my name I was like ‘wow’.

“I remembered the first time I have a call [up] – not for the last World Cup but for the first time I went to the national team – and then [I] was so emotional.

“Then I was like crying and just emotional, you know? I couldn’t move, as well. And then I start to call my mum, my baby, everyone, because this is just amazing for us, just amazing.”

THE VERDICT: GOOD MEMORIES

It is always a joy for these players to be called up to play at the World Cup and for Jesus, he’s been here before, after making it to the World Cup in 2018. The 25-year-old will be aiming to put his recent scoring form behind him and help his side lift the trophy in Qatar.
