Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli played a part in Brazil’s World Cup win over Serbia on Thursday night

THE LOWDOWN: PART OF THE PARTY

Jesus and Martinelli were selected to be part of the Brazilian squad to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. While Jesus was expected to make the list, Martinelli’s inclusion came as a surprise.

Both of them came on in the second half and it was Martinelli’s World Cup debut after he replaced Raphinha late on.

THE LATEST: HOW IT HAPPENED

Arsenal forwards Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli featured for Brazil in their 2-0 win over Serbia.

Second half goals from Richarlison set the world cup rolling for Tite’s side as they hope to clinch a first title since 2002.

Jesus replaced the Spurs forward in the 79th minute before 21-year-old Martinelli entered the fray late on to win his fourth cap for the Selecao

Post-match, Martinelli was happy to make his first World Cup appearance and tagged it “unbelievable”.

Despite the good win, it was overshadowed by a potential injury to talisman Neymar who came off around the same time as Jesus’ introduction.

Brazil take on Granit Xhaka’s Switzerland next on Monday, November 28 before concluding their group stage against Cameroon on Friday, December 2.

THE VERDICT: GOOD START

For Martinelli who was tipped not to get a lot of playing time, making his debut in the first game is a huge plus for him.

Although both of them didn’t start the game, it was expected but the most important thing is that their side started on a winning note.

Martinelli has the desire to clinch the title with the Brazil and they have taken the first step towards achieving that.

All eyes will now be on the South American nation ahead of their second World Cup fixture against Switzerland on Monday.
