Former Arsenal player Kevin Campbell has been impressed with Mikel Arteta’s managerial style so far.

THE LOWDOWN: MIXED TENURE

Upon leaving his role as Manchester City assistant manager, Mikel Arteta was appointed as  Arsenal’s new coach in December 2019. Upon his appointment, he was able to steady the ship a bit and Arsenal went on to win the FA Cup final in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea to claim a record 14th triumph for the Gunners in the competition.

He followed that success up with a Community Shield triumph over Liverpool a few months later.

THE LATEST: MORE PRAISE FOR ARTETA

The managerial approach of Mikel Arteta had impressed Kevin Campbell after watching some clips of Arsenal’s All or Nothing docu-series.

Speaking about the Spaniard recently, Campbell admits the former midfielder is doing a good job.

He said to Football Insider: “It has shown to me that Arteta will try everything with this young squad.

“He wants to get them mentally right and mentally prepared.

“He has got a bit of stick for playing You’ll Never Walk Alone but as a player, that would get under your skin a little bit. That is why he did it, to get under their skin. It is done to try and prepare the players for the beast that is Liverpool.”

THE VERDICT: MUCH IS EXPECTED

Mikel Arteta may have wrapped up two trophies in his first seven months at the club, but he is still yet to hit that level that is expected of him at Arsenal.

He has been backed by the club with transfer spending exceeding the £100m mark for the second successive summer window. With the profile of signings made, he has an idea of the kind of team he wants to build at the Emirates and he has so far gotten the right support for it.

He is clearly doing a decent job so far, and Arsenal can only hope that his team can repay him by performing to a high standard and winning trophies.

Anything short of a top-four finish will be disappointing for Arsenal and Arteta is well aware of the situation he currently finds himself in.
